Michael du Pré
Michael du Pré, retired and married with two daughters and five grandchildren, divides his time between Jersey and the UK. He is a retired Chartered Accountant having served his Articles to Henry Peat of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell &Co (now KPMG) in the City and worked with them until moving to Beecham Group. Michael worked as a senior executive with Beecham which, through mergers evolved into SmithKline Beecham and finally GSK (the largest pharmaceutical company in the UK) and ended his career working directly for the Group Global Financial Director where, inter-alia, he headed up and successfully delivered a mega million pound 5 year project to set up a data collection, consolidation and reporting system for the Group world wide.
Michael was a Vice President in the company for many years, working at all operational levels. Based in the UK he travelled extensively and worked and lived in Germany with his family for 12 years as a European Financial Director of 37 companies. Michael has been with SOSJ since 2011, bringing his wealth of expertise to the organisation, and has been Chair for the last year. Back
Contact Dave Cabeldu
Dave Cabeldu was educated at Victoria College and then went to art college in the UK. He has co-ordinated SOS Jersey since 1986 when it was originally a Havre des Pas group*. Dave has been married to Elaine for 46 years and they have a daughter, and an 11 year old granddaughter. They have lived in St. Clement since 1981.
Dave’s background is in youth work, music and graphic design. He founded Sounds Workshop (now St James Youth Centre) and sat on the Management committee for 20 years. This is now a thriving rehearsal, recording and performance venue for young people. He is a guitarist and taught music before opening a successful music shop (East Coast Music) with friend Chris Bellée and then later ran a graphic design company.Since 2011 he has worked full time on SOSJ issues as they have intensified due in large part to the mistakes of previous administrations.
Dave was made an MBE in the 2019 New Year’ Honours list, ‘for services to the preservation of Jersey’s heritage and environment.”
* This group was formed in order to request the States of Jersey to make the bay an SSSI (as the area then had no special protection). 12,000 signatures, a States debate, and nine years later, it became part of Jersey’s newly designated south-east coast Ramsar Area. Back
Jersey girl Lara Luke was educated at Helvetia House School and Jersey College for girls, and then went on to Highlands College to complete a BTEC National in Business and Finance. Through the passage of time, work and family, Lara has gained other qualifications such as diplomas in Comprehensive building, Health and Hygiene and Pollution Control. In 2008 Lara graduated from the Open University with a BSc (hons) Degree in Environmental Studies. Her favourite subject areas are air and water pollution and their effects on the environment.
Lara joined SOSJ in 2009 and is their pollution control consultant. She has been involved with several campaigns including pollution events at the Energy from Waste Plant. Lara is married and has six children. She lives in St Helier with husband Steve and works in a local primary school as a learning support assistant. Back
Ed Lamond retired to Jersey with his wife Darna. They have a large family residing in both Jersey and the UK. Born in Calcutta, Ed has resided in eight countries, india, Tanganyika, Kenya, Jersey, Australia, England, Hong Kong and the USA, yet has managed to spend 24 years in his home Island. His career in investment analysis began in London in the 1970s. He has been a partner in WI Carr, a London-based stockbroker with sizeable interests in Far Eastern stockmarkets.
Ed was MD in Swiss Bank Corporation’s Far Eastern stockbroking and investment banking subsidiary – the equivalent of an executive director in the Bank itself. He was also an executive director in Barclays de Zoete Wedd, Barclays Bank’s then stockbroking and investment banking subsidiary. Ed’s expertise has been invaluable especially since SOSJ widened their interests as the Waterfront has developed and the States of Jersey Development Company have come into being. Back
Contact Jacqui Carrel – firstname.lastname@example.org Jacqui Carrel is the latest recruit to the SOSJ committee and we are pleased to welcome her. A Jersey lady, but living on and off in Europe and the UK, she had returned to St Brelade. Her 2.1 (hons) degree was in Environmental Science. Jacqui taught Science for many years, including at Jersey College for Girls; she has also taught psychology, ICT and English.
Jacqui is partner in the Jersey-based website, marketing and publishing business Cinnamon Edge, so we’re pleased to have her on board to run the website and help prepare reports along with her science input. She also jointly looks after the SOSJ Facebook page which now has 4,000 members. She is a keen photographer, particularly of Jersey’s beautiful coastline – Click here to see some examples at ‘Jacqui Carrel Photography’ on Facebook. Back
